WHAT THE RIVER ARRANGES
On a warm October afternoon near the Saint Thomas University campus in St. Paul, I went looking for the shoreline a young student had described in an audio recording about his own encounter with the Mississippi. Down a footpath, past maples burning bright overhead, the air cooled, and the sound of the river took over. There was almost no trace of anyone else — just a dog’s paw print and a scrap of rusted riverboat hardware. Everything else was the river’s own arrangement: stones, sticks, seeds, and leaves, laid out as if with intention. River Divination No. 1 is the first piece in a series asking what that arrangement might be telling us — an ancient practice of divination, still happening in nature, if we’re still enough to notice.

WHY PEOPLE LOVE River Divination No. 1
River Divination No. 1 isn’t just a print — it’s an invitation to slow down and read a landscape the way you’d read a message. Its warm palette of river stone, driftwood, and sand brings that same stillness into a room. Whether paired with other pieces from the River Divination series or shown solo, it carries the feeling of a shoreline that hasn’t been disturbed in a long while.
